My second quilt coat!

In case you missed my first post, I've decided to do a recap of all of the quilt coats i've made- so here is quilt coat number 2 ! (Excuse the very windswept hair- I was trying to get some artistic shots at a lighthouse but it didn't really work out :-)

I made this one using Penelope Handmade's Ebb and Flow Quilt Pattern. I made the throw size but made it wider by adding extra columns and didn't add the large piece to the top. (As a side note, if you are looking for a super quick and fun pattern to make, I highly recommend this one!

I used a bunch of solids (It's the Sonoran Skies bundle that I made for Scribbly Gum Quilt Co) with some Devonstone Ecru. I lined it with a simple light pink fabric and bound it with scraps of fabric left from the bundle

I used the same hacked version of Simplicity 8467 that I made my first quilt coat from, where I essentially downsized it, removed the hood, added pockets and cut in the neck line.

If you'd like to see a short video explanation of what I changed, you can see my instagram story highlight here.

I quilted it on my sewing machine using diagonal straight lines- about 1.5" apart. They look nice and straight and even here but if you took out a ruler and spirit level, you would realise the truth.

And that's it- this one was really fun to make and I still love the colours! It's probably one of my lesser reached for quilt coats as it's not super easy to match with but I love it nonetheless.

I really like the rainbow binding- it took a little extra time as they were quite small pieces but I think it worked out well!

And here is the inside- given the outside is so colourful, I decided just a muted simple inside would work best:

And finally, the back! If you've been thinking about making a quilt coat, I highly recommend making one- they aren't nearly as tricky as you would think and if you're a quilter and you've been scared of making garments before, there's something about this being quilted that makes it dare I say... easier? (Promise!)
